Craig Dunlop

South Africa

I am a born and bred Capetonian and I love my city.

My family roots have been traced back to the late 1680s in Cape Town - so this city runs deep in my veins, and I have lots of stories to tell....some of them a little "tall" perhaps, as they have been passed down over the years.

I studied Horticulture and Botany after leaving school and spent the following 15 years working as a landscape gardener and environmental consultant mainly around the Table Mountain region although I have also worked in that industry in the Channel Islands and London. During my time working on and around Table Mountain I began to lead informal mountain walking trips and soon realised that I had discovered a passion for working with people and tour guiding was a natural progression. In 2004, I began to work full time as a guide.

My guiding specialities are gardens and plants of the Cape, Cape History and Wine, but I have a broad knowledge in many fields drawn from the variety of experiences I have enjoyed over the years. I have raced keelboats half way around the world, fallen off my mountain bike a few times and jumped out of a perfectly functioning aeroplane at 3000 feet. I sound a bit like a swashbuckling adventurer.....The other side to me is a "prefer to stay at home" Dad who enjoys reading, good food and debating with my kids.

My guiding philosophy is simple - I do not believe that a visitor to our beautiful region simply wants to see the sights - they want to "live" the experience - exercising all their senses to come away "feeling like a local" My tours are conducted in an easy going conversational manner as opposed to simply dispensing facts until you fall asleep.

I freelance as a tour guide and chaperone with or without my Mercedes Benz Vito and have had the pleasure of guiding people from all walks of life from underprivileged schoolkids to filmstars and captains of industry.

I am an accomplished motorcycle guide and own two ( and have access to many more ) BMW F800GS overland motorcycles which can be used for the more adventurous visitor.

I hope to be of service to you
